Tanner Labs has developed a high-speed, high-resolution camcorder.
This camcorder comprises a CCD imager, as well as four parallel
recorder PC boards, a digital controller card, and power supplies.
Each recording PC board includes 10 flash ADCs with 8-bit
quantization and a dynamic RAM buffer, and the entire recorder
subsystem is capable of maintaining an aggregate data rate
across 40 input channels of over 1.2 gigabytes per second.
With a faster imager, the entire system would be capable of
recording images with 640 × 480 resolution at 2000 frames
per second. We also developed software that provides the user
with a variety of trigger and playback options.
This camcorder was developed for the U.S. Army as part of
the SBIR
program.
