Digital Standard Cell Libraries
In the field of digital design, basic logic functions are used several times on the same integrated circuit. Consequently, ASIC design commonly employs the use of standard cell libraries due to their robustness and flexibility, resulting in quick turnaround times. Building a standard cell library requires development of the physical layout for all the leaf cells ranging from simple gates to latches and flip-flops. These can then be used to build arithmetic blocks like adders and multipliers. However, when the standard cell library must be ported to a new fabrication process, the physical layout of all the cells needs to be changed. Automation helps the process, but eventually expert designers and layout engineers produce process-optimized layout that takes advantage of special layers, local interconnect, salicide and many other features that are unique to a given fabrication process.
Tanner EDA has developed an extensive set of digital standard cell libraries compatible with most major semiconductor process technologies. These libraries are tuned to include both electrical and geometric optimizations that are targeted to the specific vendor process. Thirty-two basic gates are included with each library. These can then be applied to produce any combination of the 1400+ functional blocks described in Tanner SchemLib symbol library. Additionally, each cell contains necessary port and connectivity information required for schematic or synthesis based auto place-and-route in the Tanner Tools environment.
Optionally, detailed cell characterization information is available for each of these standard cell libraries. This includes typical rise and fall delays, load characteristics, maximum clocking frequency and other specifications. This information is available in the form of synthesis and simulation library interface files which can be used by industry standard synthesis and simulation tools. .
Currently, Tanner EDA has process setup files for several different process vendor technologies. Please refer to our Technology Files and Libraries list to locate the particular set you are interested in. If you are interested in a particular process technology setup that is not currently listed, or have special requirements in terms of design rule checks or extraction capability, please contact us so that we can help meet your specific needs. We would be happy to develop a technology file and rule set tailored to your requirements.
