NVE is a leader in the practical commercialization of spintronics, a nanotechnology that many experts believe represents the next generation of microelectronics. NVE licenses its MRAM intellectual property and sells spintronic products, including sensors and couplers, to revolutionize data sensing and transmission. The company currently sells most of its products into factory automation applications. NVE continues to gain a presence in the medical market, and is currently targeting automotive electronics for the future. NVE designs CMOS and bipolar foundry wafers and adds spintronics at its own factory. The spintronics portions of NVE's designs use a unique library of intricate structures and design rules. Spintronics uses exotic metal films including ruthenium, chromium, platinum, and manganese. NVE relies on nanometer layer thicknesses where mind-bending effects kick in—conductors become insulators and insulators become conductors.

An NVE BioMagnetIC sensor uses spintronic sensor elements for biological assays. Applications include ultra-miniature biological warfare agent detectors and laboratory-on-a chip diagnostic systems.
